PRINGLE of Scotlandspring/summer 2003.Stuart Stockdale, Head of Design next>>>__

Stuart Stockdale, 33, joined Pringle Scotland as head of design at the beginning of 2002. He is responsible for developing the men's, women's, and golf collections. He is also in charge of the debut childrenswear and home collections. At London Fashion Week in September for Spring/Summer 2003, Stockdale will present the first ever Pringle catwalk collection.

A St Martins BA, and Royal College of Art MA graduate of womenswear design; Stockdale began his career in 1995 as an assistant to Romeo Gigli, where his work gained an award from the I.W.S. In 1997 he moved to New York to work for J Crew, where he says, "I gained a good overall understanding and experience of the American Market." Stockdale set up his own eponymous womenswear label in London, and also set up Jasper Conran's first luxury menswear collection.

Stockdale, who was born near the Scottish borders near the company's base at Hawick, has always been a Pringle fan. "When I first saw the archive I was totally inspired. There is so much potential", he says. "There is nothing else like Pringle on the market. My challenge is to break out from the knits, yet everything I design must come from the heritage of the knitwear. My collection will be very British, very glamorous, and yet with a street sensibility. I am developing the signature argyle, and bringing back the Twinset in a new, sexy way. My collections will be aimed at an international clientele."
