KATE GILMORE "GIRL FIGHT" 31 January - 20 April 2008 at Artpace San Antonio, Texas www.artpace.org

The laboratory Artpace (founded 1995) for the creation and advancement of international contemporary art believes that art is a dynamic social force that inspires individuals and defines cultures.

The first solo museum exhibition of Kate Gilmore's work (born 1975 in Washington D.C., living in New York) presents nearly a dozen performance based videos where the artist portrays in tragicomic situations the difficulty to control uncontrollable and absurd situations. The artist plays the leading role in her videos and subjects herself to precarious situations while wearing clothing incongruous with her circumstances.
