IKÉ UDÉ ___ Beyond Decorum

MAK Gallery (basement) MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts
Stubenring 5, A-1010 Vienna
13 December 2000–4 February 2001

His photographic works may be regarded as performances in which the artist often reveals himself as a multiple personality in a theatrical mise-en-scène. From the artist’s manifold oeuvre, which comprises photographic, performance, video and film works, the exhibition at the MAK Gallery will present the installation ‘Beyond Decorum’ and ‘Project Rear’, the photographic series ‘Billboards’, ‘Uli’, and ‘Cover Girl’, as well as a selection of issues of the magazine ‘aRude’. The installation ‘Beyond Decorum’ (1999) centers on the increasing impact of fashion and pornography on contemporary art. A boutique-like presentation introduces suits, ties, shirts, and shoes with labels resembling personal column ads: ‘I’m Robert. I’m 25 years old, blond, brown eyes, 5’ 9", 150 lbs, 9" cock. I’d like to bend you over and do it doggie style. I’d love for you to suck on my cock. I can feel my cock going in your pussy. Call now …’
