movie-tip in June 2008

"These days I have got the Viennale / Film Archiv Austria catalogue with the cinema open air program for the next 2 months from 4th July until 17th August in the Viennese Augarten and selected two movies which I recommend to get deeper into a style that was never a fashion phenomenon alone; Punk was born out of an ideology of young people in the late 60ies/early 70ies. Wellknown are the fashionable styles of the Londoner Punks created by anarchist intellectual, music manager Malcolm McLaren, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, ...

The first selected movie is the documentary "The Filth and The Fury" (GB/USA 2000), directed by Julien Temple, with the Sex Pistols (Sid Vicious, Paul Cook, John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones), David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Bryan Ferry, ...

Some say you have to see this film in combination with another to understand the Punk movement.

My second movie-tip is the fictive documentary, partly written by the manager Malcolm McLaren, of the year 1979 from the same director: "The Great Rock'N'Roll Swindle" (GB). Fortunately you have the chance to watch it on 28th July in Vienna at the open air cinema and everywhere else; where ever you are living."
