In the late 1920s SALAVATORE FERRAGAMO returned to Italy to establish the main factory in Florence, Via Mannelli. Here he adopted expedient solutions to production: metallic threads, wood, felt, synthetic resins similar to glass, and raffia, a typical Florentine product. SALVATORE designed memorable creations like the very high heels, reinforced with metal, made famous by MARILYN MONROE, sandals in 18 karat gold, heels in an F shape and the „invisible“ sandal with uppers in nylon thread. Working for personalities such as GRETA GARBO, SOPHIA LOREN, ANNA MAGNANI, the DUKE and DUCHESS OF WINDSOR and AUDREY HEPBURN his name became film history.
