What does art?

La Biennale di Venezia is a good place to find out what the world of today's artists is and for getting emotionally involved into their strategies. It's like a ticket to a space where going beyond, looking behind our times becomes so easy!

Such as experienced in the room with mirrors by artist Kimsooja in the Korean Pavilion.

I stood there without shoes together with people from all over the world - only in socks (and I experienced that it was not for all visitors common or comfortable to put off footwear in a group with strangers - perhaps they had socks with holes; but I didn't look so close).

The strangers appeared in the mirror room like a big community which reflects continously itself and all its members. The socially-reactive visitor-art room evoked the feeling of something like 'familiarity' and 'liveliness'. With each move the visitors made, even the light in the room changed by reflecting the people's wardrobe colors.

So when you visit Venice: wear nice socks! They make an impact.

The Korean Pavilion is entitled 'To Breathe: Bottari'. Bottari means 'bundle' and refers today's civilization as a community, as a 'whole world' with all its problems such as location - dislocation and migration - exile.

"...bottari encompasses issues of body, self and others and the relationship of yin and yang to life and death. Bottari explores problems of location and dislocation; migration; exile;..." koreanpavilion2013.com.
