Rock
up Rococo!
The
designer as DJ of style
What
would the trendsetter of Rococo Madame de Pompadour wear if she had a
rendezvous with Mozart in 2006? For the Triumph International Fashion
Award 2006 designers can create their fashionable visions of Rococo-Retro.
The theme of the award is „Dress up for Mozart – Rock
up Rococo!“
Rock
up Rococo!
How would Rococo look like in 2006? The late Baroque style of the 18th
century used floral elements on soft silk fabrics, shells (Rococo
comes from the French word “Rocaille” – rock
work, shells …), oval forms and stripes on fine cotton. For the
first time the asymmetrical arrangement is a central element in applied
arts. Pink and mint in pastel are the favorite colors of Madame de Pompadour.
Innumerable bows of satin fashioned her in the form of exclusive candy.
She looked so sweet like marzipan in strawberry chocolate. Rococo was
a playful, pretty time, full of enjoyment. There had been very strict
esthetic rules. So for example colors had to fit to certain fabrics. It
was the first time that the perfect combination of the outfit and the
way of living had been the guaranty to be part of the “fashionable
scene”. You had to show your elegant style in your whole behavior.
So the best place for a date of Madame de Pompadour and Mozart would have
been a festive dinner with erotic scented food in a fantastic arrangement.
Unfortunately
the both VIP’s of the 18th century had no possibility to date -
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived from 1756 until 1791, Madame de Pompadour
from 1721 to 1764. Even though Mozart was a wunderkind, he was too young
for a date with Madame de Pompadour. So we have arranged a time-travel
to 2006.
Dating
Mozart
Where would the 30 years old Mozart meet Madame de Pompadour? And how
would they look like today? The crinoline and the voluminous skirt will
not fit into the sportive car of Madame. Even the hair style of Mozart
with two curls on each side would look strange in our days. Or what would
you think about a man with such a hair style? Both are historic personalities
with high impact on their time – they had been trendsetters: Pompadour
for new fashion trends, Mozart for his lovely music. The hottest club
in town with exclusive catering and the hippest DJ’s would be the
right place for their first date.
Retro
– Back to Future
Retro-fashion is created out of the knowledge of the past, the present,
and the designer’s vision of the future. The designer fashions new
relations between existing signs and their content. The process of the
permanent new interpretation of history is not only important for the
creation of Retro-fashion. It is universal for the analysis of history.
So even Rococo was enriched with new content since the last two centuries
which influence now our perception of this style. This is the reason why
Retro-fashion is not only a copy. Retro is the reflection of the presence
into the past with a visionary hint to the future.
Rococo-Retro
2006
François Boucher, François de Troy or Antoine Watteau has
captured the images of Rococo. They are in the same position like the
famous photographers of today. Documents of the most beautiful clothes
have been made. And the painters even made “fashion”: the
famous Watteau back is named after Antoine Watteau.
For the Triumph Fashion Award 2006 fashionable pieces – no costumes
- are requested. They can be created under the aspect of “Retro”.
The knowledge of the style Rococo is the basis for the innovative fashion
of 2006. Rock up Rococo!
