HOUSE OF DIEHL
1. "Get Wet" Trench Coat.
Transparent, corseted, clear lightweight vinyl; opaque insets and details,
with embossed lace design; "Get Wet" embroidered on lapel and
"Peek-a-boo" panel on upper back.
Seams and visible stitching details highlight the bathing suit underneath,
by matching color and bathing suit silhouette lines.
2. Mermaid Cover-Up with wood bead & embroidered trim
detailing, and silver fish-on-hook clasp. Each color stripe, a corresponding
fabric- Cotton, raw silk, silk chiffon, linen- quilted together.
3. Silk Chiffon Batwing Dress with vintage button plackets
Sheer silk chiffon, fine cotton, recycled business shirts. Sheer chiffon
insert and cut-out on front and back of skirt allow a sexy peek at undergarments
*At the heart of this piece is a new textile, realized as a dynamic collage-like
quilt. Formed from a rainbow of button plackets cut from recycled business
shirts, MJ Diehl patterns a stunning array of colors, fabrics and textures
into a unique palette to express the mood and purpose of each garmentŠ
4. Garter-Strap Corset Dress with ruffled skirt, ruffled
dickie and sleeves.
Garter strap details, tulle and silk chiffon tucked, gathered, and pleated.
This garment demonstrates a key Diehl design philosophy- "Convertible
Couture": The garter straps are functional, allowing the look of
the dress to be altered to the wearer¹s taste- i.e. details of the
dress may be snapped off and on, such as the shoulder ruffs, as well as
lengthened and shortened.
Artist and philosopher MJ Diehl is a native New Yorker. Brought up on
Bugs Bunny, Barthes and the Beastie Boys, she cites the thriving, creative
international vibe of the city as her greatest inspiration. Narrowly escaping
a philosophy career at Wesleyan University, a writing career, the casting
couch, the psychiatrists¹ couch, the music world and the rap world,
MJ Diehl turned to her fiercest love‹fashion‹just two years
ago. The first pieces she ever designed were immediately nominated for
two of America¹s most important fashion awards: Gen Art Styles, and
Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation. House of Diehl has shown in New York,
Los Angeles and London.

Fashion is self-expression. When words fail, this image of ourselves‹our
social skin‹ translates who we are across culture, creed, and color,
instantaneously. This culturally relevant message, Style, is the combination
of clothes and those that wear them. Style, this interactive art of fashion,
is my medium: creating community; empowering people to express themselves
(not cookie-cutter brand ideology); helping you wear what you mean.
