Explorations of the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum): The shores of Austria and ceramics at lake Traunsee

Europe, Austria is defined by its borders - not only the geographical borders, also the ability to be open for change. Already in 2018, the in Vienna located Volkskundemuseum adjusted its permanent exhibition of signature objects of Austrian culture like Tyrolean wood interior to resemble today's cultural awareness of the country's population. For the update of the permanent exhibition under the title 'The Shores of Austria' (Die Küsten Österreichs), Volkskundemuseum commissioned a group of curators - all of them asylum seekers - who incorporated their experiences of being refugees with objects such as a life jacket into the display collection of the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art.

Volkskundemuseum researches continuously on Austrian culture and organises from time to time excursions such as currently published at volkskundemuseum.at concerning a tour to ceramics production and exhibitions in Gmunden at the lake Traunsee in Upper Austria. The excursion happens on 16 and 17 September 2020; according to the website, places are left and registration is still possible (fast checked today).
