Preview 2021 exhibition at mumok Vienna: Social interactions, technologies and contemporary forms of visual communication are topics at the show of the photographic work by Wolfgang Tillmans

The exhibition 'Wolfgang Tillmans' (25 September 2021 - 6 February 2022 27 November 2021 until 24 April 2022) was announced recently by mumok with introducing words addressing the current situation of the pandemic with restrictive measures for reducing contacts. Especially named are social distancing and the relocation of human interaction into the virtual space which is diagnosed as "mediatization of our everyday lives" with effects on media and visual communication like photography.

Wolfgang Tillmans' work is strongly associated with haptic, print and the materiality of surfaces; through his work, the photographer appears standing with both feet on the ground looking at the world around him, the world he is part of such as Tillmans sings in his latest song which was released several days ago: 'Can't escape into Space' …"we're in it". In context with people's changed lifestyles and media usages such as the grown importance of smartphones, the exhibition 'Wolfgang Tillmans' is announced (press release) to throw light on how photographic images are distributed and received nowadays.
