MKG Hamburg exhibition 'Dressed' follows role models, pioneers for telling the story of 200 years of fashion and emancipation embedded into social history with topics such as body norms (25 February until 28 August 2022)

The arts and crafts museum MKG Hamburg presented the programme 2022 with previews of exhibitions such as 'Dressed' about fashion and social changes over 200 years. For the exploration of society and especially the role of women, MKG uses as 'red thread' clothing and accessories worn by extraordinary women, role models in their times from the early 19th century until nowadays. Even when the presented women were according to the press release not selected after the criteria status or celebrity, the dramaturgical red thread is mainly a luxurious one as the clothing items are from the wardrobe of upper class women, avant-gardists, representatives of an elite and personalities of the emancipation history with the financial power to buy their couture at famous fashion houses like the House of Worth (Charles Frederick Worth is known as the 'father of haute couture'), the artist among the couturiers Elsa Schiaparelli, or Yves Saint Laurent who revolutionized haute couture by incorporating male attire into women's wear, keyword tuxedo or blazer. It's announced that around 150 clothing pieces and accessories from well-known ateliers, brands as well as anonymous tailors will tell together with biographical artefacts ranging from video interviews, photographs to documents the story of fashion and emancipation embedded into social history with topics such as the changes and discussions concerning body norms.
