Book fair and festival 'Buch Wien' presents program ranging from children's workshops, readings to discussion about topics like politics and the evil or cancel culture and wokeness (23 - 27 November)

The annual book fair and festival 'Buch Wien' has been held since 2008 every autumn at the Wiener Messegelände, the Vienna Exhibition Center. Since 1948, the Association of the Austrian Book Trade has organized the event which started under the name 'Österreichische Buchwoche' (Austrian Book Week). After fast checking the recently released online program of the days from 23 until 27 November at buchwien.at, the fair and festival promises to become again an inspiring place. Around 470 authors and experts can be met at talks and discussions about political, social or environmental topics or at workshops, readings for children. Additionally to the Messegelände, events will happen at locations like the Theatermuseum, at bookstores, the library of the City of Vienna, or the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue.

The search through the online program after categories can be recommended for events for children and youth or for events where experts, authors speak about political, environmental, economic, cultural or social issues; last mentioned events can be found under the category 'Buch Wien Debatte'.

The 26th and 27th November are the days with the most 'Buch Wien Debatte' events such as the debate on 27 November 'Macht Politik böse?' (Does politics make you evil?) with philosopher Lisz Hirn and politician Helmut Brandstätter, or on 26th November the discussion about the impact of 'Cancel Culture und der Trend zur Wokeness' on identity and the pluralism of opinions in modern democracies. The definition of freedom is the topic at the discussion 'Für eine neue Kultur der Freiheit' between Austrian philosopher Konrad Paul Liessmann and German political scientist, sociologist and freedom researcher Ulrike Ackermann on 27th November.

Sunday, the 27th November is the day with the highest number of popular and illustrious guests. One of them is Niki Osl, known in the fashion industry for her floral accessories label 'miss lillys hats' and her illustrations for the Austrian brand 'Lena Hoschek'. On the last day of Buch Wien, Niki Osl appears together with the author, Austrian actress and festival director Kristina Sprenger for the reading of the new children's book (from 4 years) 'Komm mit mir nach Tausendblum' about the power of conviction and the importance of believing in dreams (illustrations by Niki Osl, published October 2022). Details of the conversation and reading are published at www.buchwien.at/programm/komm-mit-mir-nach-tausendblum.
