Applied arts in practice: Fashion.at visited the '(Con)temporary Fashion Showcase' for the preview of the new fashion hub for exhibitions and exchange at the MAK branch Geymüllerschlössel in Vienna

At the entry of the Geymüllerschlössel, a branch of the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna, visitors will see the first piece of the exhibition of architect and designer Julia Koerner's work, a 3D printer at the museum shop where vases in the edition of 65 pieces are available. Fashion.at bought by the way the very first vase from the edition showing a similar surface like the pedestals which carry the art-design pieces at the cupola room of the summer palace Geymüllerschlössel. The designer, who lives in Vienna and Los Angeles, combines architecture, art and design for items like architectural objects, artful 3-dimensional prints on fabrics, or elegant clutches produced after order and for customized pieces for collaborations with labels like Swarovski, Chanel, haute couture by Iris van Herpen, or for film costumes like the cooperation with Ruth E. Carter for the award-winning Hollywood film Black Panther.

The exhibition is on view from 7 May until 5 June 2022.

The mannequin on the left wears the Setae Jacket which shows a special 3D-print on a fabric. The print was calculated with an algorithm imitating butterfly wings with fine hairs and scales.
Right: At the press preview, Julia Koerner spoke about her works which are made of environmentally friendly sourced, sustainable materials. The bag collection is placed at the exhibition on 3D-printed pedestals from the designer's 'Lamella'-series. The stackable pedestals are like the bags produced from plant-based materials and are inspired by the lamellas of fungi.

The '(Con)temporary Fashion Showcase: Susanne Bisovsky' exhibits selected creations of the Austrian designer and is dedicated to her recently released book 'Wiener Chic' from 11 June until 28 August 2022.
