Vienna Party Insight: Art club series 'C'est la fête!' starts on the same day as the Pride Month-related art tour 'Paris is burning. Rendez-vous with queer diversity' at Heidi Horten Collection

The new museum destination 'Heidi Horten Collection' opened last year right next to the Vienna State Opera with the art exhibition 'Look' (article), which was placed in the context of the founder's collection of couture pieces. Now, until 29 October, the Heidi Horten Collection is presenting 'Rendez-Vous: Picasso, Chagall, Klein and Their Times', an exhibition on the art and lifestyles of artists from the end of the 19th century to 1970, as well as on the collecting activities and life of the museum's founder, Heidi Horten, who spent part of her life in Paris and the South of France. Objects from Horten's extensive collection of works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Yves Klein are presented with the artists' biographical milestones and in relation to periods of social and political change, focusing on works created in Paris and the South of France. The artworks are shown in the context of Heidi Horten's lifestyle in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, particularly at the modernist Villa Dubeau in Antibes on the Côte d'Azur. In addition to the art collection, the exhibition offers a glimpse into Heidi Horten's life through the display of furniture, handicrafts, and furnishings. Heidi Horten furnished her homes in the same style as she collected art. The combination of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century furniture with pieces by twentieth-century designers and artists, such as a 1969 table by Italian sculptor Giacomo Manzù, is characteristic of Horten's style.

The exhibition is accompanied by several events such as the Pride Month-related art tour 'Paris is burning. Rendez-vous with queer diversity' for exploring the depiction of flappers, jazz and gender norms. The tour will make its debut on 15 June, the same day as the museum's after-work clubbing series 'C'est la fête!' in the sculpture garden. Featuring a DJ lineup with a French flair, the series will be the first after-work clubbing ever to take place in the museum's garden. Visitors can take part in various tours of the exhibition 'Rendez-Vous: Picasso, Chagall, Klein and their times' and enjoy drinks and snacks in the garden.
