How Spike Lee wrote fashion history

Recently, Spike Lee's 'King of Culture' portrait by Kehinde Wiley was unveiled. Now in early July 2014, the director of iconic movies appears again in the spotlight of the fashion/lifestyle arena and presents the new special collection of four caps from the 'New Era Heritage'-series. The series reminds almost 100 years history of sport and fashion. The family owned company New Era (founded 1920) collaborates with athletes, designers, artists and is the official outfitter of several sports teams - such as the New York Yankees which belong to the American Major League Baseball (MLB).

In 1996, Spike Lee (a Yankee fan; video below) called New Era's CEO Chris Koch per phone and asked if he might have a Yankees cap in red instead of the traditional blue one. The '1996 Collection' by New Era X Spike Lee reminds this phone call which caused caps in various colors and a hype around Spike Lee's New Era cap in red.

The red and blue caps (two in cotton, two in leather) of the 'Spike Lee 1996 Collection' will come into selected stores such as Overkill (Berlin), Colette (Paris) or Selfridges (London) on 17 July 2014; available worldwide on 24 July 2014.
