Insights into the opening of the designforum exhibition 'Best of Austrian Design' on occasion of the award ceremony of the Austrian State Prizes Design 2022

Every two years, the Austrian 'Staatspreis Design' is handed out by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs to innovative companies in the categories consumer goods, investment goods, and interior design products. For the 49th Staatspreis Design, the jury members from architecture, design focused on topics like responsible production or inclusion. One of the prestigious awards was handed out to the 'Rolf Bohnenbrille', eyewear from plant-based material. The Tyrolean company Rolf received for the bean glasses already the Design Intelligence Award 2021 Honorable Mention, the European Green Award, or the Red Dot Design Award.

'Tondach V11 | Clay roof tiles' designed by Studio F.A. Porsche for Wienerberger Austria won the Austrian State Prize Design 2022 in the category investment goods. The tiles received already the German Design Award and Red Dot Design Award.

At the award ceremony on 25 May at the Q21 in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, also this year's 'Special Prizes' were presented in two categories. The architecture project by destilat Design Studio for the winery Weinmanufaktur Clemens Strobl won in the category 'Spaces & Environment'. The special prize category 'DesignImpact-Concepts' is dedicated to innovative design concepts. Three projects by graduates of Austrian universities convinced and will get support from the Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) on the way to market maturity: The '3D tufting production method' for the creation of three-dimensional textile surfaces designed by Bettina Löger (studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna), the 'Gravel football boot from Ghana' designed and manufactured by Ruben Asuo (studied at the FH Joanneum Graz), and the 'KADAM leg prosthesis for alpine sports', a 3D-printed leg prosthesis for mountain sports designed and manufactured by Yasmin Hashw (studied at the FH Joanneum Graz).
