Wachau insight: 'Kre:ART' is Krems' crucible for the training of awareness for the preservation of the old, saving of resources and new designs from waste

Yesterday, Fashion.at traveled to Krems in the Wachau, Lower Austria for visiting the exhibition 'Alpine Rope Teams'; a preview of the exhibition with focus on a retail business woman and athlete was published recently. The region Wachau located between the towns Krems and Melk was inscribed in 2000 in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. Walking through the old city of Krems on roads with pavements that reference the medieval origin of the town and buildings in the architecture of the gothic and renaissance is the best way to explore the authentic historical setting. At the shopping boulevard along the Obere Landstrasse and Untere Landstrasse, the stores and restaurants, bars, cafes with guests sitting in the outdoor areas fit into the scenery without breaking the ensemble of the architectural treasures.

Fashion.at took a narrow road only passable for walkers, the 'Burgstiege' (castle stairs) at the Untere Landstrasse for reaching the Gozzoburg, a gothic palace. Some meters after the corner at the end of the Burgstiege, the upcycling design shop 'Kre:ART' is located. The store turned out to be one of the crucibles of Krems where the awareness for the preservation of the old, saving of resources and new designs from waste is professionally trained in workshops for people of all ages up to seniors of over 100 years. The oldest participant of one of the workshops was 102 years old. The two workshop spaces are directly enclosed to the store of upcycling products by projects from Austria like Vienna-based gabarage (Fashion.at presented recently a product series) or from Germany such as the winners of the German sustainability award 'Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis 2022' with the meaningful name 'Airpaq' related to the bags made of upcycled airbags from car scrap.

Monika Seyrl founded the store with Reggio-pedagogy and -philosophy orientated workshops in 2013 after she moved from Vienna to Krems where the educated pedagog started to mediate a holistic approach of perceiving our world and began to organize certified trainings with subject-specific professional teachers for people of every age for brightening the variety of possibilities of self-expression through design and other artistic activities.
