'adidas Originals by Wales Bonner' SS2022 is a joyful reinterpretation of the 70s, 80s based on research of West African music and photography

From today, the latest collaboration between award-winning designer Grace Wales Bonner and adidas Originals is available. The British designer received after finishing her studies at Central Saint Martins in 2014 prizes like the LVMH Young Designer Prize (2016) or the CFDA International Men's Designer of the Year in 2021. Since 2020, Wales Bonner heads the Fashion Design Department of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. The debut graduates' and students' fashion presentation under Bonner's direction 'Show Modeklasse 2022' for insights into the fashion class' approaches to the exploration of clothing from outdoor to evening wear received loud applause by the Viennese audience which is normally rather sluggish when it comes to expressing enthusiasm. The film shot during the presentation will premiere at the Angewandte Festival 2022 (28 June to 1 July).

For the fourth season of the 'adidas Originals by Wales Bonner' partnership, the designer combined styles from the adidas archives of the 70s and 80s with looks developed from her research on music and photography of Burkina Faso, West Africa. The collection of athletic jacquard knitwear for women and men includes a new seventies-inspired re-design of the classic track top and track pants in the vivid and optimistic colors warm red, sun yellow and pale pink. The Wales Bonner footwear models are reinterpretations of the adidas Country and the Samba sneakers.
