Classic 'Trainer' sneaker with over half a century of design history in Ludwig Reiter X Médecins Sans Frontičres design

Austria is the origin of several fashion items with distinctive designs that have been worn around the world for decades. The sneaker 'Trainer' by Ludwig Reiter is one of them. Ludwig Reiter, a company with a long history of producing high-quality footwear, is known for its contributions to both traditional and contemporary shoe designs. The sporty shoe's design draws inspiration from the athletic footwear worn by the Austrian military in the 1970s. In the 1980s, Helmut Lang collaborated with Ludwig Reiter to transform the military training shoe into a leather-lined sneaker. This evolution gave birth to the iconic 'Trainer,' characterized by its original BW Sport sole and timeless U-stripes, which have remained unchanged for half a century. Today, the 'Trainer' is one of the brand's signature pieces, boasting a global fan community.

In early November, the Austrian shoe manufacturer Ludwig Reiter and Médecins Sans Frontičres (Ärzte ohne Grenzen; founded 1971 in France) presented the second edition of their collaboration. This partnership began with a discussion between Till Reiter, the company's CEO, and Marcus Bachmann, the head of humanitarian affairs at Ärzte ohne Grenzen Austria, regarding the organization's emergency efforts during the Ukraine conflict. In the second year of the collaboration a new white Ludwig Reiter 'Trainer' sneaker, featuring reflective stripes and red-white shoelaces, inspired by Ärzte ohne Grenzen, was designed and produced in a limited edition to raise funds for medical aid in crisis areas around the world. A significant portion of the sneaker's sales proceeds, 50%, will be donated to Ärzte ohne Grenzen to support their global humanitarian missions.

Last year, Ludwig Reiter and Ärzte ohne Grenzen invited to a fireside chat at Süßenbrunn Castle to discuss the emergency operations of Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontičres (MSF) and to auction the last Globetrotter bags of the cooperation. This year, Till Reiter and Ärzte ohne Grenzen invite on 14 December to the Dreimäderlhaus in the 1st district of Vienna, where Marcus Bachmann will talk about current missions. The invitation is published on https://www.ludwig-reiter.com/de/aerzte-ohne-grenzen; registration via email is requested.
