Today, H&M unveiled the looks from its upcoming fall 2023 womenswear collection. The pieces, which focus on black and animal-free leather and fur, will be available in stores and online worldwide in mid-September. The H&M Fall Fashion 2023 collection is a mix of different styles that have been fused into one look, where contrasting fabrics are combined, such as delicate sheer fabrics and leather, or where the contrast of fragility and durability meet in the fabric itself, such as the one used for the shirt jacket with the appeal of a fragile lace material made durable by faux leather material.
In the press release, Eliana Masgalos, Concept Designer at H&M, says that the main source of inspiration came from visually stunning films. She went on to explain that the collection is a mix of historical references combined with a decidedly modern outlook. She described it as a contemporary take on romanticism.
The films of the "Baroque meets neo-noir with romantic" look inspired by the 1990s - as described in the media material - are not mentioned, but when remembering the highlights of 90s cinema, some might think of the 18th century style in the movie 'Interview with the Vampire' (1994), Trinity's outfit in 'The Matrix' (1999) or 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990).
When it comes to cuts, anything goes: Widths and lengths range from narrow to wide, from long dresses to short skirts. The collection includes jewelry as well as bags and shoes: Pearls in white and black, silver and gold for day and evening, from small bags to an oversized tote in fake reptile leather; elegant high-heeled pumps, studded ankle boots to flat over-the-knee biker boots.
