Oktoberfest tip from Salzburg-based traditional clothing brand Felicitas & Hans: Lederhosen without leather

Summer vacation hasn't even started yet, and planning for fall events like Vienna Fashion Week (September 9-14) or the Oktoberfest is already in full swing. Autumn begins in Austria on September 1 (meteorologically) and September 22 (according to the calendar). The first announcements about the details of the fashion week and the first style tip for the Oktoberfest with a focus on mixing tradition with environmental awareness arrived at Fashion.at last week. The Oktoberfest is traditionally celebrated from September to the first days or half of October, such as the largest October festival in Vienna, the Kaiserwiesn from September 26 to October 13.

The styling tip for the festival came from Felicitas & Hans, a Salzburg-based traditional clothing company that is one of the brands owned by husband and wife team Kathrin and Sebastian Proft, who manage several companies - from knitwear and felting brand Stapf, based in Wörgl in Tyrol, to jeans brand King of Indigo, based in Amsterdam. The products have one thing in common: the fashion items are designed and produced with a focus on sustainable materials and fair production practices.

For Felicitas & Hans, environmental awareness and folk festivals can complement each other perfectly, which is not so difficult because traditional costumes are very resistant to fast-changing fashions, and secondly, the costumes are mostly made of natural, often regional materials like linen or wool. A great tip is to replace the leather of the lederhosen with linen! The brand recommends pairing the linen lederhosen with a linen or cotton shirt and recycled wool socks for the ultimate sustainable ensemble.

The latest collections feature high-quality, sustainable materials such as organic cotton and linen. The garments combine traditional and modern elements while ensuring comfort. Key pieces include the organic cotton 'Romina' dirndl, paired with a mint apron and cotton blouse for an elegant, fresh look, and the linen 'Konrad' (very classic) and 'Kurti' (an urban version) short trousers, which offer a reinterpretation of traditional lederhosen with a light, comfortable fit.
