On the occasion of today's Earth Overshoot Day: Fashion.at took a look at the gabarage outdoor furniture made of tarpaulin materials and faulty garbage cans.

Today is Earth Overshoot Day, which means that humanity has used up all the natural resources Earth can regenerate in one year. Earth Overshoot Day was last year on August 2. On https://www.wwf.de/earth-overshoot-day (checked today), seven tips for strategies are presented, including the recommendation to extend the life of fashion products, promote a plant-based nutrition, or reduce food waste. Other tips, such as Green Deals, expanding renewable energy, or protecting the rainforest, focus on activities at the political level.

An Austrian project that fights for the responsible use of resources and against waste, and links its strategies with government initiatives, is the up-cycling design 'gabarage manufacture' with workshops and shops in Vienna, St. Pölten (Lower Austria) and Neusiedl am See (Burgenland). The social business cooperates with government institutions to obtain funding to employ jobless people to make products such as bags, lamps, and furniture from waste.

Recently, Fashion.at was informed by the press about items of the gabarage 'longTon' series of sofas and chairs made of tarpaulin materials and defective garbage cans. Since July, the durable items have been used in the outdoor gastronomy location of the Salettl Summer Camp in the area of the former medical university and hospital, the 'old AKH' in Vienna. Gabarage's motto "Every/thing/one needs a second chance" for things that have left the commercial cycle applies, with a modification to 'everyone', to people who, due to their different life histories, have found it difficult to find a place on the job market and get a new chance in the upcyclers' workshops, in sales and administration.

On the left are sofas from the series, on the right are bar stools. The items in the series are available in a variety of color combinations, as seen today on https://www.gabarage.at/produkt-kategorie/moebel-wohnen/serie-longton/.
