Outdoor apparel and equipment company Vaude launches second hand online platform with rental service as latest circularity project

The German outdoor company Vaude, known for its commitment to environmentally friendly materials and production processes as well as its strategies to reduce waste, emissions and to save resources, today launched the new online store https://rent-secondhand.vaude.com/ with a press release and a podcast providing knowledge and tips on how to extend the life of products and the growing trend of buying used products including a call to politicians.

In the company's podcast on https://vaude-insideoutdoor.podigee.io/25-folge-24-kerstin-secondhand, Robert Klauer, who is responsible for Vaude's circular business development, talks about the launch of the second-hand online shop, where products can be bought or rented - initially only in Germany - how the products are selected and the ideas behind the new business, such as saving resources, but also the transformation of the outdoor business in general, the development of new business models, the promotion of repair and the call to politicians for new tax regulations or other measures to support repair services, etc. The podcast is available in German only.

The products in the new online second hand store include clothing, tents, bike bags, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc. Three criteria are available as a filter to select products according to their condition: 'Like new' means that the products have hardly any visible signs of use, 'very good' is the filter for products with small visible signs of use, and 'good' are products with visible signs of use. For the new alternative to buying new outdoor clothing and equipment, Vaude is cooperating with WKS Textilveredelungs-GmbH and the French technology partner Lizee. The professional cleaning and repair service to ensure hygienic and fully functional products, such as re-waterproofing if necessary, is carried out by the outdoor equipment processing specialist WKS Textilveredelungs-GmbH in Wilsum, Germany. Currently, the products come from Vaude's second-hand collections. Klauer announces that it is planned to include clothing sent in directly by consumers. But this step is in preparation. The plan is that from 2025 there will also be a purchase option, i.e. consumers will be able to sell used products to Vaude.
