The Austrian brand Silhouette is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its very light and durable Titan Minimal Art eyewear. Since the early 2000s, they have also been used in space and received positive feedback from astronauts. In 2004, they received Certified Space Technology status from the Space Foundation (https://www.spacefoundation.org/2004/09/12/silhouette-optical-awarded-certified-space-technology-status/). Space suitability is also the key message of the current campaign on https://www.silhouette.com/at/en/titan-minimal-art-in-space, featuring models in spacesuits wearing the iconic eyewear. Space is a topic at Silhouette! The lightness of architectural construction, which, through the dynamic creation of a space, refers to something above the earth, is also the inspiration for one of the three students who presented their reinterpretations of Silhouette eyewear as part of their graduation show at Polimoda. The information was sent out recently by the Linz-based eyewear company, which operates in over 100 countries on 5 continents - and in space. Three students from the fourth year of the basic fashion design course - Luca Polonio, Ian Morris McDonald and Gabriela Marie Blake - with the support of Roland Keplinger, Head of Design at Silhouette, reinterpreted Titan Minimal Art in the context of their final collections. Luca Polonio of Brazil, for example, drew inspiration from Gothic architecture to create sculptural eyewear that reflects the intricate designs of church ceilings. In the press release, he noted that he was guided by the language of form and studied architecture and the anatomy of living things to create his collection. Luca Polonio enhanced the classic pilot shape of the sunglasses with rectangular elements that mimic the intricate cuts of Gothic ceilings to create a bold architectural statement. Along with Ian Morris McDonald (USA), who fused vintage cycling glasses with modern designs to create a minimalist yet innovative shape, and Gabriela Marie Blake (Ecuador), who fused swim goggles with '70s-style frames to create an ironic accessory, Polonio talks about his approach in a video on Instagram. Silhouette announced that this collaboration with Polimoda is the first of two planned projects.
