Blickfang Vienna 2025: Ceramics, Modular Design, and Fashion

Design Conversations at the MAK

Fashion.at joined yesterday's press tour of the 22nd edition of Blickfang Vienna, held at the Museum für angewandte Kunst (MAK). The fair, open until 9 November, brings together more than 160 design labels from across Europe — a record number in the event's history. The press group visited selected stands on both levels of the museum, where designers presented their latest creations.

Before the tour, Blickfang's organizers shared insights about this year's visual identity: magenta dominates once again the fair's color scheme, literally catching the eye — "Blickfang" translates to "eye-catcher" in English. Other navigation colors guide visitors through themed sections, such as "Future Forward," curated with the Design Foundation to highlight sustainable and long-lasting products. Founded in 2016, the foundation also supports the annual Blickfang Design Award and aims to foster young creative talent.

Modular Thinking: Form Follows from Vienna

Among the exhibitors, The Form Follows from Vienna presented furniture that balances functionality and timeless design. Co-founder Anna Trubrig introduced the stand and explained the studio's focus on modularity and durability. She emphasized practicality and sustainability: "We want to transport as little air as possible," she said, referring to the furniture's easy disassembly for compact shipping.

In front of her stood a table by designer Clemens Schillinger, showcasing home accessories that echoed the studio's philosophy — versatile pieces crafted for everyday use yet defined by artistic clarity.

RnD Studio: Rings Shaping Ceramics

A highlight for many during the tour was the stand of RnD Studio, founded by Resa and Daniel, both with backgrounds in graphic design. The pair started their ceramic and illustration studio last year, combining artistic playfulness with everyday functionality. Their vases, characterized by dynamic organic curves, are inspired by their own wedding rings, specially crafted for them by a jeweler friend.

Visitors were drawn to tactile pieces like the Bubble Mug, which invited touch and curiosity. Each ceramic item is cast by hand and available in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Currently, Instagram @rndstudio.at serves as their main presentation platform, alongside fairs such as Blickfang and the upcoming Christmas Market Spittelberg Vienna (14 November – 23 December).

Common Grounds: Collaboration in Diversity

Another notable presentation came from Common Grounds, a collective project by Pouran Parvizi, Oliver Kuzma, and David Hopp, alumni of the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Modeklasse). Their installation, located at Stand 111, symbolizes collaboration among distinct artistic voices — showing that individual design approaches can coexist and complement each other. The project encourages shared creation amid diversity, a concept increasingly relevant in today's complex world. With this project, the three designers represented the University of Applied Arts at Blickfang.

A Warm Finish at the MAK Lounge

The press tour concluded in the sunlit lounge on the upper floor of the MAK, where participants enjoyed a relaxed get-together with catering by Francophil, a Vienna-based company. The menu featured delicate quiches and coffee with latte art design — served with kindness and style.

After this short break, journalists continued exploring the fair's many stands. Blickfang Vienna proves once again that taking time to wander through the world of design is more than worthwhile.
