From Wörthersee With Joy—Gina Drewes' Zest for the Experimental

Fashion designer Gina Drewes brings a unique blend of elegance, experimentation, and performative spirit to the Austrian design landscape. Her label breathes the zest of life — a quality not only rooted in her base in Velden am Wörthersee, a lakeside town known for its holiday flair and sunlit atmosphere, but also in her fearless joy for experimenting at the intersections of design, art, installation, and performance.

Originally trained in fashion and product design, Drewes has built her reputation on a strong sense of character, storytelling, and texture. Over the past decade, she has presented her work at international fashion weeks in Paris, London, Tokyo, Amsterdam, and Beirut. Her studio and store are located in Velden, where she designs for her labels Gina Drewes and Monkey on my Shoulder, which range from high fashion to elevated streetwear. She is also active in stage design and spatial concepts, having collaborated with brands like Swarovski.

Introducing 'Antonio': A men's collection with cinematic edge

In spring 2025, Drewes launched her first standalone menswear collection titled Antonio, marking a new direction in her design career. Inspired by the archetype of the romantic rebel from the 1960s — charismatic, self-assured, and subtly nostalgic — the 15-piece summer wardrobe offers a confident yet playful interpretation of modern masculinity.

The collection features wide trousers with bold cuffed hems, slim-cut shirts with retro collars, oversized silhouettes, and a thoughtful mix of patterns, including gingham, pinstripes, polka dots, and checks. Drewes applies her signature detail-focused craftsmanship to the line, incorporating flowing wool, lightweight silk, and fabric-covered buttons that add a refined finish.

Among the standout pieces are the Giorgio Shirt, a translucent shirt in blue and red tones made of 100% cotton voile; the Antonio Trousers, a classic pinstriped piece in marine blue crafted from a flowing virgin wool blend; and the Mario Shorts, a tricolor design combining red pinstripe, white jacquard cotton, and black cotton with a subtle sheen. These items, as seen today at ginadrewes.com, highlight the collection's versatility and sartorial playfulness.

Textile installation meets live performance: A summer exhibition in Moosburg

True to her multidisciplinary ethos, Gina Drewes also launches a new art project this year, collaborating with Austrian visual artist TOMAK on the exhibition FABEL | GEIST | FORM. The show opens on 12 July 2025 at Schloss Moosburg in Carinthia, a baroque guesthouse and cultural venue near Lake Wörthersee.

The exhibition brings together TOMAK's expressive works on paper and sculpture with Drewes' textile-based installations. While TOMAK explores symbolism, grotesque figuration, and metaphysical themes through drawing and sculpture, Drewes translates inner states into performative textile objects that straddle the line between clothing and artistic form. Her works, conceived for this setting, suggest new dimensions of textile language — where garments do not simply dress but rather assert, interpret, and transform.

The exhibition is curated by The Line Up, a platform for contemporary, interdisciplinary art led by Maria-Anna Messner-Haidenthaler. With its baroque architecture and reputation as a venue for cultural events, Schloss Moosburg provides an ideal setting for this performative dialogue between fashion and visual art. A short video offering behind-the-scenes impressions of the collaboration is published on thelineup.at, where the official invitation to the opening on 12 July 2025 is also available. Attendance at the vernissage requires an RSVP.

Fashion.at has already saved the date — and very likely also a swim in Lake Wörthersee.
