17 September 2025 ![]() A new chapter for Hanro atelierThe Austrian-Swiss lingerie and loungewear house Hanro opened a new creative chapter, which will make its official debut on 25 September during Milan Fashion Week (23–29 September 2025). With the launch of Hanro atelier, the brand introduces a collaboration program that brings together established and emerging designers. The first to take part is Vienna-born, Milan-based designer Arthur Arbesser, who will present his capsule collection in his Milan studio (announcement on Instagram).Collaborations across disciplinesArbesser is no stranger to partnerships that reach beyond traditional fashion. His creative handwriting has shaped costumes for the Vienna State Ballet, designs with Backhausen, and a collection for the Vöslauer mineral water brand. A Central Saint Martins graduate and 2015 LVMH Prize finalist, Arbesser moved to Milan over a decade ago and has since become known for his bold use of pattern and playful reinterpretations of classic forms.Hanro, meanwhile, carries its own strong cultural legacy. Founded in 1884 in Switzerland and today part of the Austrian Huber Group, the company is a global name for understated luxury and high-quality lingerie. Its Cotton Seamless spaghetti top famously appeared in Stanley Kubrick's film Eyes Wide Shut, worn by Nicole Kidman — a piece that remains an international bestseller. Comfort with characterThe Hanro x Arthur Arbesser collection offers boxer shorts, briefs, crop tops, tank tops, and long shirts in Arbesser's signature checkerboard designs. The colour palette blends dove blue, beige, bordeaux, and contrasts of black. One standout motif resembles a hand-drawn sketch of a check: black strokes on a beige background give the fabric a lively, comic-like rhythm.Another piece is a soft, oversized shirt patterned in alternating squares of burgundy and muted blue — a design that evokes the impression of a chessboard in motion. The overall tone is playful, light-hearted, and quietly ironic, qualities that have become Arbesser's hallmark. The collection is unisex in spirit, with fabrics used across both men's and women's designs, offering contemporary comfort while highlighting the geometric clarity Arbesser is known for. Patterns that playThe capsule strikes a balance between structure and spontaneity: from the drawn-check motif that feels almost like a sketchbook translation onto fabric, to the precise symmetry of the checkerboard. This playful use of geometry is where Arbesser's voice resonates most strongly — a style language that transforms underwear and loungewear into modern statements of individuality.Images, from left: A long-sleeve shirt in burgundy and blue squares, reminiscent of a chessboard pattern. The 'HANRO x Arthur Arbesser' capsule collection from the company's new 'Hanro atelier' line is available from mid-September in selected Hanro stores and online.
