20 August 2025 ![]() Two anniversaries, one collaborationThis October, the Austrian textile company Vossen launches a limited-edition collaboration with Peanuts, the legendary comic series created by Charles M. Schulz. Both partners are marking milestones: Vossen, founded in 1925, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, while Peanuts turns 75.Vossen, known as one of Europe's leading terry cloth producers, has been synonymous with softness, sustainability, and high-quality craftsmanship for decades. The Peanuts series, which began in 1950, has long transcended comic strips. With its themes of friendship, perseverance, and humor, the characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Woodstock became global cultural icons. Towels with characterThis collaboration brings the Peanuts characters to bathroom and beach textiles. Highlights include a black-and-white jacquard towel featuring the iconic zigzag pattern of Charlie Brown's sweater with his silhouette embroidered on it. There is also a green towel in eucalyptus tone embroidered with Snoopy lying down in his typical relaxed pose. Snoopy appears in three variations across the collection: Sleepy Snoopy on bath towels, Vacation Snoopy on a beach towel, and Snoopy Beach on another larger towel design. A kimono coat is also announced, featuring Woodstock, though no preview has been released yet.Kidults, nostalgia and fashion cultureThe press release highlights the concept of the "kidult," a term coined in the 1950s. It merges kid and adult and is used in two ways: most commonly, it describes adults who enjoy activities or cultural products originally intended for children—such as comics, toys, or games. Less commonly, it can also refer to children who take on responsibility early or show adult-like behaviors. The latter description resonates with Peanuts characters: Charlie Brown, often overwhelmed yet responsible beyond his years, and Snoopy, whose imaginative flights of fancy reveal a complex, almost adult-like worldview. The kidult phenomenon has become a popular part of fashion culture. Collectibles, such as the currently fashionable Labubu, reflect the blending of contemporary style and nostalgia. They offer a way to connect with one's younger self and find comfort and joy in the chaotic adult world. While some kidult products are driven by hype and celebrity endorsement, others carry deeper symbolic weight, expressing resilience, optimism, and the courage to face life's ups and downs; some of these, like Peanuts, have been around for decades. Snoopy embodies curiosity, positivity, and the spirit of exploration. He has been much more than a pet dog for generations—he is an imaginative adventurer whose optimism endures. Charlie Brown, meanwhile, is a character of quiet heroism. Despite his many setbacks, he never gives up—a quality that makes him endearing and relatable to people of all ages.
