Quick Read

• The next Edelstoff design market takes place on October 3 and 4 at Vienna's Marx Halle.
• It is the third of four Edelstoff markets planned in Vienna in 2026; the final edition will follow later in the year.
• Around 170 designers and small manufacturers are listed, including roughly 40 new names in the database.
• Fashion accounts for around 30 labels, alongside jewellery, art, cosmetics, food, kids and product design.
• The programme also includes workshops and studio demonstrations, with no advance registration required for the DIY area.

The third market of the year

Edelstoff returns to Vienna's Marx Halle for its Autumn Market on October 3 and 4, continuing a format that has become a regular fixture in the city's independent design scene. The venue is not new territory: since 2016, Edelstoff has used the former industrial hall in the third district as its regular home after its first four years at the former Anker Expedithalle.

The Autumn Market is the third Edelstoff edition in Vienna this year. The Winter and Spring markets have already taken place, while another XMAS edition is planned for later in the year. Edelstoff continues to run four markets annually, all in Studio 1 of Marx Halle.

The scale remains substantial for a market focused on independent production. The current exhibitor database lists around 170 designers and small manufacturers, covering fashion, accessories, jewellery, art, cosmetics, culinary products, kids' and product design. Around 40 entries appear under the database's "NEW" filter, suggesting that the market's changing element is not only about new products but also about new participants.

Familiar names alongside new labels

Fashion is one of the larger sections, with roughly 30 labels currently listed. Among them are names that have already become recognisable within Vienna's independent fashion landscape, including Kamen, Verdandy and Fröhlich. Fröhlich was also part of the recent VIENNA FASHION WEEK programme, where its small-series clothing and use of European deadstock fabrics were presented.

For returning Edelstoff visitors, this creates an interesting mixture: part of the market is already familiar, while a sizeable group of newcomers changes the selection from one edition to the next. The organiser says that around 35 to 45 labels regularly make their Edelstoff debut at each market.

Several of the new fashion entries illustrate different approaches to small-scale production. Vienna-based winna, founded by Nina Nemes, works across fashion and handmade design objects, with an emphasis on reusing existing materials and upcycling. Rilona, also based in Vienna, makes garments from selected secondhand textiles, working with a tailoring workshop in the city to create small-scale pieces. Croatian label 2 the Moon and Black, founded in 2019 by Irina Jurinac and Marina Buklijaš Čaleta, describes its work as handmade and based on slow-fashion principles.

Cosmetics, art and the less visible programme

Cosmetics provide another small but established section. Among the exhibitors is Austrian natural-cosmetics label NADEOS, known particularly for its natural deodorant creams as well as soaps and other cosmetic products. Based in Vienna, the company distributes its products through pharmacies and health-food stores, placing the brand within the specialist natural-cosmetics market rather than conventional supermarket retail.

The exhibitor database does not, however, tell the whole story of the programme. Workshops are not listed as a separate exhibitor category. According to Edelstoff's information, visitors can take part in workshops without prior registration, with details announced around the respective market. Fashion.at also learned by telephone that Flora Wildlife Art, listed under art, will be among the participants offering a workshop.

The market's categories extend well beyond fashion: accessories, kids, cosmetics, culinary products, art, product design and jewellery are all represented, with street food forming a separate part of the event. Selected labels will also demonstrate elements of their production processes at the market.

A market that changes without starting from zero

The current exhibitor list therefore presents a familiar Edelstoff paradox. Much of what regular visitors encounter is connected to an existing network of independent Austrian and international labels. At the same time, dozens of newcomers enter the selection, making the market different from its previous editions.

That balance is perhaps more relevant than the sheer number of stands. Edelstoff was founded in 2012 by Simone Aichholzer and Sabine Hofstätter and has developed into a recurring platform for independent designers and small manufacturers. Its continued format — four markets a year in the same large industrial setting — provides continuity, while the rotating selection of exhibitors supplies the element of change.

For visitors who already know Edelstoff, the Autumn Market is therefore less a completely new landscape than a changing map: familiar labels, new makers, workshops and products occupying the same Marx Halle setting.
