Music and culinary festival 'Donaukanaltreiben' at the sidearm of the Danube river with new Covid-19 concept for the events from 31 August - 6 September in Vienna

Autumn, winter will become a challenge - and it will be a greater challenge when people are careless in summer. This doesn't mean stop enjoying life; it means to live with some rules in mind: Keeping distance is probably the most important (1 meter minimum), wearing a mask where it is obligatory (supermarket, public transport,...) respectively where the distance can't be kept (outdoors as well as indoors), and practising hand hygiene.

The Viennese are requested regularly at official events such as the upcoming 'Donaukanaltreiben' where people will meet for culinary and live music performances from 31 August to 6 September at the Donaukanal (sidearm of the Danube river) to follow these simple rules for going together healthy through the pandemic. At the FB post (embedded on this page), the organisers of Donaukanaltreiben recommend additionally to the above mentioned rules (distance, mask, hygiene) to stay at home when feeling sick.

The name of the one week festival 'Donaukanaltreiben' is derived from the name of the sidearm of the river Danube and from floating (treiben) in the stream as well as from 'treiben' in the meaning of hanging around but also actively doing. The event area reaches from Franzensbrücke to Spittelau and includes gastro locations, restaurants, bars and clubs such as Summerstage, Tel Aviv Beach, Krokodü/ Boxircus, Hafenkneipe, Flex, or Das Werk. Due to Covid-19 safety measures, the festival was extended from three days in 2019 to one week and the performances from the main stage will be this year decentralised at various locations to prevent large gatherings. Most of the events will be held outdoors. Music performances at the legendary club and concert location Flex can be visited by maximal 200 guests with pre-registration. The schedule of performances (dates, locations) will be updated daily via www.facebook.com/donaukanaltreiben.
