Vienna Insight on occasion of the reopening of gastronomy on 19 May: Meeting place of the city's culture scene, restaurant Heuer surprises with new dishes created by award-winning gourmet chef Markus Höller

The closing of gastronomy was a hard hit for the people during the lockdowns of the last months. Even when many restaurants delivered meals, the core business - providing comfortable spaces for guests for drinking and eating together - couldn't be fulfilled. Now on 19 May due to decreasing numbers of new infections and hospitalisations, it will be allowed again to visit outdoor and indoor areas of restaurants.

Restaurant 'Heuer' is located at the Karlsplatz, near the Vienna University of Technology and the building of the Vienna Secession where people are invited to view today's society from new perspectives through art. 'Heuer' has a large outdoor area, a so-called Schanigarten, and two indoor spaces in a building where exhibitions of the Kunsthalle Wien happen such as the upcoming exhibition for the whole family about the ecological impact of digital technologies used for the creation of visual art (article about the upcoming Vienna Biennale with this year's title 'Planet Love. Climate Care in the Digital Age').

On occasion of the reopening, Heuer's chef de cuisine Markus Höller developed together with his team new creations for 'Casual Fine Dining' and for the 'Small Plates' menu card. The 'Small Plates' concept is inspired by Mediterranean and Japanese kitchen traditions. Several dishes are served on plates at once. As far as Heuer revealed the menu, the dishes are a mix of traditional Austrian kitchen with inspirations from international cuisine. The ingredients of the dishes are delivered by hand-picked producers and suppliers from the region.
