Austrian algae farm product 'Spirulix' was selected for the Sial Innovation Awards 2022 of the international food fair Sial Paris (15 - 19 Oct 2022)

'Spirulix' is the brand name for food like mueslis, crackers, organic chocolate bars made from the microalgae Spirulina grown on a farm in Lower Austria. Since 2015, the team of Spirulix has been researching the algae before the production of food from algae grown at their own farm in Sitzenberg-Reidling started in 2017. After relatively short time on the market it entered already the hall of fame of innovations in Vienna - the Vienna Museum of Science and Technology (Technisches Museum Wien), where the algae products and the making of was included last year into the special exhibition 'Foodprint' (ended last Sunday on 28 August). Now, the Spirulix team sent the information that the muesli was selected for the final round of the Sial Innovation Awards 2022 of the biennial international food fair for producers, retailers (supermarkets, importers,...) and services like hotels or restaurants.

The last prizes were awarded two years ago. Among the winners was another innovative Austrian company; the 'Vegini' meat substitute made from pea protein as alternative to beef won in the 'Alternative Food' category of the Sial Innovation Awards 2020.

In 2022, Spirulix submitted the algae muesli available in two flavors - apple cinnamon and red berries - to the Sial Innovation Awards. Several days ago, the brand received the confirmation that the muesli was nominated. The winners 2022 will be chosen by an independent jury in mid-September.
