It's seeding time again! Austrian gardening retailer Bellaflora presented four garden trends

Today's most important garden trend is the combined kitchen-relax garden realized through nature protecting concepts including a diversity of plants, mixed cultures and the creation of an environment for bees and birds. In Austria, the seeding of herbs like parsley or vegetables such as radish, spinach begins in February/March. On the basis of the general kitchen-relax garden trend and on occasion of the current seeding time, Austrian gardening retailer Bellaflora released a planting trend report developed by the company's plant expert Bettina Bayer-Grilz with focus on the mix of flowers and trees with herbs and vegetables.

The four garden architecture trends are summarized as the 'Sun Garden' with sun-loving plants like peppers, citrus trees and geraniums, the 'Shadow Garden' which increases humidity in summer heat due to the natural thicket that is planted with a variety of ferns and grasses, the 'Water Garden' with water lilies, red loosestrife, white swan flowers, or yellow irises, and the 'Mediterranean Garden' with potted plants like olive trees, pomegranates, and oleanders. At the last mentioned garden, lavender, rosemary, and laurel play additionally an olfactory role.

At bellaflora.at/wissen/downloads/info-kalender/, calendars for sowing vegetables and herbs, for sowing flowers, or the directory 'Mixed culture of flowers with vegetables/herbs' (benefit is a positive effect on the mutual growth) for plants which fit together such as lily with garlic, lavender with salad, sunflower with cucumber, violets with raspberries,... can be found.
