Updated selection method for the Hornstein-Ranking of the 50 Top-Rated Restaurants in Austria

The Hornstein-Ranking is named after its founder Wolf von Hornstein who started the overview of the leading restaurants in German-language countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italian-German language South-Tyrol) in 1981 by using the rankings of the leading gourmet guides like Michelin or Gault & Millau. For the latest Hornstein-Ranking 2022, the update of the data sources is described closer in the foreword of the printed version published at hornsteinranking.de/hl/restaurants (PDF fast checked today) such as that ratings by Falstaff Österreich were included for the calculation of the new ranking concerning the 50 Top-Rated Restaurants in Austria.

The guides used for the Hornstein-Ranking of restaurants in Austria are shown at the bottom of every page of the printed (or PDF) issue: Gault Millau, Á la Carte, Schlemmer Atlas, Der Große Restaurant Guide, and Falstaff. Four restaurants have reached the best position, two of them in Vienna. According to the Hornstein-Ranking 2022, following restaurants received the best ratings in the latest guides, in sum recalculated with 98,8 of 100 Hornstein points:

  • Ikarus im Red Bull Hangar 7 in Salzburg, chef Martin Klein - 98,8 points
  • Obauer in Werfen, chefs Karl and Rudolf Obauer - 98,8 points
  • Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant at Palais Coburg in Vienna, chef Silvio Nickol - 98,8 points
  • Steirereck im Stadtpark in Vienna, chef Heinz Reitbauer - 98,8 points

At the Hornstein-Ranking online, the restaurants are presented with contact information including website address and interactive map.
