Where to find the best fries? Fashion.at restaurant tip in Burgenland
Yesterday, Fashion.at made a detour from a nearby fashion-related visit to Lake Neusiedl for a short break at the restaurant 'Mole West' in Neusiedl am See. It was a cloudy, but calm day. The temperatures gave a first taste of the summer season. The restaurant has a turbulent past, especially due to the effects of climate change, which is suspected to have caused the lack of water in the lake in 2022. The step lake is also known as the 'sea of the Viennese'. Visitors were kept away in 2022, and in the years before, the financial aid from the state to skipper through the harsh times of the pandemic could not be used due to the change of ownership in 2021. A battle of misfortune caused in the administrative rules and regulations. But as far as Fashion.at knew the restaurant from 2022 and 2023, even the cuisine after the concept of a cool, Ibiza-inspired lakeside hotspot for the schickeria (in-crowd) could not reach the high quality of the location before the change of ownership. From 2021, the restaurant got louder music but a menu that was uninteresting and the dishes did not impress. But this has obviously changed!
Mole West offers currently a menu with interesting dishes, many of them made with ingredients from the region and fished out of the lake, such as pike-perch or Pannonian fish soup. Fashion.at ordered small dishes as it was a short break, such as truffle fries in truffle oil with fresh parmesan and homemade truffle mayonnaise, which are probably the best fries you can find in and around Vienna at the moment! Delicately crispy outside, light and airy inside! The fries were paired with a rosé wine from the Strehn winery in nearby Deutschkreutz, a region of Burgenland known for its excellent wines. Strehn has already won several awards for its rosé. Not only does the winery have good wine, it has also received attention for its packaging design. The Strehn label design made in Burgenland won the Red Dot Design Award. Mole West has found a fitting expression for the Burgenland style. Neusiedl can't be compared with Ibiza. Neusiedl is unique. It is a place to chill out and draw strength from the tranquility of the region and the unpredictability of the lake, which is transformed into a turbulent playground for water sports by strong winds. Lake Neusiedl is home to water sports world championships and is the meeting and training place for the country's surfing and sailing elite, some of whom compete in the Olympic Games.
