Quick Read

• Austrian herbal lemonade brand Almdudler has teamed up with Bavarian alpine streetwear label Strawanza for a limited autumn/winter collection.
• The five-piece range combines red-and-white retro graphics, bottle motifs and traditional Norwegian-style knit patterns.
• The knit sweater with red hearts was already sold out shortly after the launch announcement went online, according to the initial observation.
• The collaboration was launched just in time for the start of Austria's ski season.

From Austrian lemonade to alpine streetwear

Founded in Vienna in 1957, Almdudler is one of Austria's best-known soft drink brands. Its herbal lemonade, distinctive bottle and traditional branding have become familiar features of Austrian everyday culture, from mountain huts and ski resorts to restaurants and social gatherings. The family-owned company has built an identity around alpine associations, sociability and a playful sense of Austrian tradition.

Its new partner, Strawanza, is a Bavarian streetwear label founded in 2011 by siblings Laura and Christoph Forstner. Formerly known as Bavarian Couture, the brand combines urban clothing with references to alpine life. Its range includes knitwear, hoodies, T-shirts, fleece jackets and winter accessories.

The collaboration brings together two neighbouring alpine cultures through a shared visual language rather than through sport-specific technical clothing.

Five pieces, one recognisable colour scheme

The limited collection consists of five items: a retro headband, a beanie, a long-sleeved shirt, a knitted sweater and a polar fleece. Red and white, the colours associated with Almdudler's visual identity, run throughout the range. Bottle illustrations and oversized lettering sit alongside retro cuts and winter motifs. The knit sweater combines a cream-coloured base with a red geometric pattern inspired by traditional Norwegian knitwear. Its diamond-shaped rows, hearts and snowflake-like motifs give the design a distinctly nostalgic character. (Norway is, by the way, officially considered the country of origin and the birthplace of modern skiing.)

The product descriptions state that the sweater and long-sleeved shirt are made in Turkey, while the headband and beanie are knitted in Bavaria. The fleece is described as made in Europe. The collection therefore combines regional design references with production across different European locations.

What does the name mean?

The names themselves help explain the concept. Almdudler is a coined brand name, not a straightforward German expression. The word draws on Alm, meaning an alpine pasture or mountain meadow, and dudeln, an Austrian colloquial term associated with yodelling or singing in a lilting style. The brand's name thus evokes an Alpine setting and Austrian musical culture.

Strawanzer, written here as Strawanza, is a Bavarian-Austrian dialect word for a wanderer, roamer or someone who likes to spend time out and about. Depending on context, it can also suggest a carefree drifter or a person who enjoys wandering around. In English, "roamer" or "wanderer" comes closest to the intended meaning.

Together, the names suggest movement, mountain landscapes and an unhurried approach to leisure. That makes the collection particularly suited to the culture around skiing, winter walks, mountain huts and après-ski gatherings.

A strong launch, but a limited supply

The early sell-out of the patterned sweater suggests that the collaboration's appeal extends beyond the practical function of winter clothing. Its recognisable branding and familiar knitwear design combine regional nostalgia with contemporary streetwear. Almdudler and Strawanza have delivered a timely fashion opening for a relaxed mountain winter. The only drawback? The collection may have been a little too limited.
