YARAT artists from Azerbaijan extend their exhibition at a Venetian palazzo with Social Media

Today, the artists of the Azerbaijanian, Baku-based organization YARAT posted via Facebook the information that insights into their work for the collateral event 'The Union of Fire and Water' during La Biennale di Venezia will be on view after the opening (9 May) via Social Media such as Instagram (latest post of an impression of Venice embed on this page) and the project's own website bakuvenice2015.com.

The artists' inspirations (historical facts, travel literature) for the exploration of the interrelation between Venice and Baku as well as snapshots from the setting up at Palazzo Barbaro are already published online. Central at the literature sources are writings of the former owner of the Venetian palazzo, Giosafat Barbaro who traveled in the late 14th century from Venice on various routes towards Germany, Poland, Russia, Persia, India and wrote about cities which belong today to Azerbaijan (post of a page of Giosafat Barbaro's Travels to Tana and Persia). The two artists of 'The Union of Fire and Water' Rashad Alakbarov and Almagul Menlibayeva reference the palace of oil magnate Murtuza Mukhtarov in Baku and reflect various histories of Azerbaijan's capital city Baku and themes like unity and conflict, love and violence, dialogue and aggression. 'The Union of Fire and Water' commissioned by YARAT will be on view from 9 May to 22 November at Palazzo Barbaro in Venice. It's announced that the YARAT artists will provide live feeds (@yaratartspace) from within the Palazzo Barbaro.
