Clothing and equipment tips for alpine hiking from the mountain specialists of the Karwendel Höhenweg trail

Autumn is hiking time in Austria. Organizations like the Austrian National Tourist Office or the Austrian Pharmacist's Chamber provide practical information about recommended tours or first aid kits.

One of the tours presented by the Tourist Office is the six-day Karwendel Höhenweg trail through the Karwendel nature park in Tyrol. The website of the Karwendel trail is a service platform in three languages (German, English, Italian) with maps, information about public transport to the region,... and detailed descriptions of the six stages including height meters, distance, starting points, mountain huts, flora & fauna,... and the recommended equipment like ankle-high mountain boots or spikes; last mentioned for altitudes reaching over 2000 metres. Karwendel Höhenweg contributes an own page to clothing and things to pack into the backpack such as the tip to wear multiple thin layers of clothing, a weatherproof jacket with hood and sun protection. One of the things which should find place in the rucksack is the 'First Aid Kit' inclusively rescue blanket.

First aid kits (patches against blisters, elastic bandage,...) can be prepared by pharmacies such as the Austrian Pharmacist's Chamber published recently in an article together with tips like the ideal ingredients of the breakfast (food, beverages) before starting the tour and the best mountaineer snacks (bars such as used by endurance athletes) for in-between. Keywords are grains, cereals, fruits, electrolyte drinks, high-calorie bars based on oatmeal, and water.
