Views on Austrian wind power: Christoph Reiter and Klaus Rockenbauer won IG Windkraft photo competition

Yesterday, the prizes of the photo competition 'Fang den Wind in einem Bild' ('Catch the wind in a picture') by IG Windkraft in collaboration with Wien Energie were handed out to the winners. Christoph Reiter from Lower Austria won the 1st prize for his image 'Another perspective' (on view below on this page) of a wind turbine shot from a drone in the region of St. Pölten, the capital city of Lower Austria.

The jury selected from around 1.200 submitted images 20 prize-winning pictures which have one in common: The photographers are using wind power to stage nature. Christoph Reiter's atmospheric view brings with its balanced composition and the dynamic of the turbine as well as of the curved way, humans' impact on natural resources of earth into mind.

The most dramatic view - 'High voltage in the wind farm' (image right), delivered Klaus Rockenbauer who won the 2nd prize of the Austrian competition as well as the 1st prize (with another photo) of the international 'Wind Vision' competition in the category 'Visionary Wind'. Klaus Rockenbauer's high energy thunderbolt with two wind turbines was taken on a rainy day at the end of July near Deutsch-Wagram in Lower Austria. The photographer had to flee into the car when the rain grew stronger. A few minutes after this picture was shot, a second thunderbolt hit the wind turbine which went on undamaged.

The selected 20 photos of wind power in Austria are published online at tagdeswindes.at/foto and exhibited until 30 October at Wien Energie Welt at Spittelauer Lände 45 in the 9th district of Vienna.
