2 April 2020 Annotation on 16 April 2020: Some stores, florist shops up to 400 square meters are open since 14 April. The Association of Austrian Gardeners provides at gartenbau.or.at a practical countrywide working tool to find a nearby gardener by entering the zip code or location. Traditionally in spring, children learn in school about planting. Now amid the coronavirus outbreak, the schools are closed and the education programme is organized by the parents. Gardeners or tree nurseries are excepted from the shutdown; so an excursion to a gardener is in general possible when the distance - keyword 'social distancing', of 1 to 2 meters is kept, even when the face mask is on. It's recommended to get a starter package consisting of seeds and plants; the gardener will give closer tips for example for plants for the balcony. Children can write about and visualize with drawings the observed progress of the flowers and vegetables at a research diary.
Austrian florist shops, which are also closed, have extended their delivery such as Vienna-based 'Zweigstelle' which is known for exclusive flower designs. A colorful bouquet brings the charm of nature to the home office.
