'among bottles...' art exhibition questioning the art system by referencing early 20th century bar of Wiener Werkstätte's 'Cabaret Fledermaus' re-opens at the gallery of the University of Applied Arts Vienna

The opening of the historical vs. contemporary art dialogue-like exhibition 'unter flaschen - Die Fledermaus in der Bar du Bois' (among bottles - The bat at the Bar du Bois) was scheduled originally for 10th March and had to be postponed due to the coronavirus shutdown. From today until 27 June, visitors can enter the space at the gallery of the University of Applied Arts located at Heiligenkreuzer Hof in the Inner City of Vienna, where the artist collective 'Bar du Bois' (Bar made of wood) references Wiener Werkstätte's legendary 'Cabaret Fledermaus' and its enclosed bar by incorporating contemporary Gesamtkunstwerk approaches inclusively the political agenda of performative arts and entertainment. The accompanying text to the exhibition introduces into the history of Cabaret Fledermaus - the movement of the Wiener Moderne, the activities of the Wiener Werkstätte at the early 20th century, the funding of the cabaret, and compares it to the situation of nowadays such as questioning hierarchies of the art system.

The gallery adjusted the space to the current Covid-19 safety measures. Don't forget your mask and keep 1,5 meter distance to other visitors!
