Annotation on 22 August 2021: At the latest Festwochen podcast (festwochen.at/en/podcast), Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha speaks (in English language) about her work, the upcoming 'Altamira 2042' performance about the Amazon's Xingu river (25 - 31 August at MuseumsQuartier in Vienna) and her Artist Lab 'Encounters of Waters' (mentioned below) in Vienna at the Danube river.

Environment & Sound: Artists Labs by Wiener Festwochen call participants (very limited places!) for exploring the city of Vienna through the eyes and from sound perspectives of artists from Brazil, Turkey and Iran

The Wiener Festwochen 'Artists Labs' will happen over several days in the 1st half of September. The calls for participants who are interested in art, artistic research are currently ongoing and will end on 31 July. For the application, the artists request some information from the candidates such as Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha (Brazil) who will select for the 5-days lab 'Encounters of Waters' a diverse (nationalities, interests, crafts,...) group of women for the shamanic-inspired exploration of the Danube. Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha asks questions such as "If the Danube could talk, what would she say?". At festwochen.at/en/encounters-of-waters procedures are mentioned that will guide the work such as the 'Documentation of the invisible and the inaudible' and the 'Use of techno-shamanic instruments'.

The sound of the environment, nature, water or leaves as well as the production of sound environments are also topics at other Artists Labs such as at 'Forest Gatherings' and 'Garden to Garden'.

The 4-days lab 'Forest Gatherings' by Turkish artist Begüm Erciyas will happen in a forest for exploring the impact of sound on the individual behaviour and on the behaviour between group members as well as for developing sound material.

At the 5-days lab 'Garden to Garden', Iranian artist Azade Shahmiri invites participants to listen to the acoustic environments and link the green spaces with their own stories respectively personal experiences. It's announced that the artist will present her artistic research and sound recordings developed in gardens in Iran.
