10 December 2021
The MAK - Museum of Applied Arts Vienna opens already on the first possible day after the lockdown on Sunday the 12th of December. Additionally to the permanent and already running exhibitions, two new shows will be opened next week. 'Josef Hoffmann. Progress Through Beauty' about the work of architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (1870 - 1956) is very likely the next must-be-seen exhibition in Vienna - but without surprise effect for the ones who know Austrian design history already. Surprises can be expected at Johanna Pichlbauer. There will be! People! On the Sun! Soon!' where artist, designer, technician Johanna Pichlbauer will throw with the eye of an artist-physicist views on the topic 'sun' and how solar power is implemented into daily life. The exploration is visualized with historical artefacts from the MAK collection and contemporary objects. For the production of art towels with solar panel-inspired pattern, the artist collaborated with the Austrian terry cloth producer Vossen. Pichlbauer's poetic approach to the concept of the mediation of the theme is described at mak.at with an announcement that visitors are invited to become interactive and "...find a spot on her 'sun deck'...".
