Vienna Insights: Photos from the first day of the design fair and shopping event Blickfang (15 - 17 October 2021)

Fashion.at followed the invitation to the press tour which happened one hour before the annual design fair and shopping event Blickfang opened its doors for visitors on 15th October 2021 at MAK Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna.

1st row, right: The press tour started with practical furniture such as the items of children's furniture brand 'Architect Mum' by architect and interior designer Carolin Hacker who was presented recently in Basel as one of the 'Future Forward Award 2021' winners. In front of media, Carolin Hacker spoke about her motivation as literally 'architect mum' of a child to design sustainable furniture such as the 'Ikigai' table which accompanies the kid from toddler age (used as drawing table,...) to teenager and adult age (side table). For the design of the 'Creative Cube' (was placed at the booth at the Ikigai table with drawing paper), Architect Mum received the German Design Award Special 2021.

1st row, middle: Also the next furniture brand has a connection to children. 'Johanenlies' is the word combination of the names (Johan and Lies) of the kids of the founder (2015, Berlin) of the brand Mike Raaijmakers who works with recycled materials. The image in the first row, middle shows Creative Director Coco Prange of 'Johanenlies'. The range of customizable furniture for the whole family and all living areas is extensive.

2nd row, left: Flexible in a technological sense is another piece of furniture that was presented on that day. The extendable (and online configurable - sizes, colors, form) table by Laik is very easy to handle (tested by Fashion.at).

2nd row, middle: Technology attracted the participants of the press tour also at the presentation of the award-winning Vello Bike (Red Dot Award, Austrian State Prize Design,...) where brand founder and industrial designer Valentin Vodev demonstrated the folding mechanism of the e-bike (video below).

2nd row, right: On view at the image is designer Fabian Schmidt of the eponymous label 'Fabian Schmidt Clothing'. He is standing beside one of his creations, a dress made from mercerised cotton with soft shine in orange bronze. The piece combines the couture drapery of the skirt part of a cocktail dress with sporty hoodie top.

1st row, left: The image in the first row, left, shows Edith Langer and Linda Zlok at the 'Mode Wien' booth where items by Viennese designers and couturiers are presented in a boutique-like arranged space. Mode Wien is the official organisation of the Vienna State Guild of Fashion and Clothing Technology (Landesinnung Wien der Mode und Bekleidungstechnik) of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (Wirtschaftskammer Wien). The poster behind Edith Langer and Linda Zlok shows pictures from the latest issue of the 'Mode Wien' magazine where 69 protagonists (celebrities, VIPs,...) presented fashion and couture created by members of the guild.
