10 August 2022 ![]() Today, the street art exhibition 'Urban Cultures Part II' at the fence of the construction site of the Wien Museum at the Karlsplatz was presented to the media. Fashion.at was early and talked with curator Karina Karadensky about the process of the selection of artists for the project which started with the first exhibitions in 2021. The selection of Feminist Killjoy was a decision with focus on the collective's activities and political message which is more needed than ever in times with increasing violence against women. In the latest posting on Instagram @feminist.killjoy in relation to the artwork 'Stoppt Femizide', particular attention is drawn to the high rate of femicides in Austria compared to other countries in the European Union.
The artwork on the wall is actually connected to 'movements' in public space.
The Futuñeras, the third collective which left an imprint on the wall, references the protest performance 'Un violador en tu camino' (The rapist is you) which started in 2019 in Chile advocating civil rights of women concerning better precautions against violence as well as victim protection. The protest performances spread from Latin America to the United States and Europe. The artwork at the fence shows three members from the collective Futuñeras wearing balaclavas during a 'Un violador en tu camino' performance. The collective raises awareness for social as well as environmental topics such as in September during wienwoche at the next Futuñeras performance and installation 'The last inventory' against overconsumption, waste and for the protection of nature. |
