Viennese culinary, fashion, design, music at the first Long Night of the Viennese Markets, the 'Lange Nacht der Wiener Märkte' on 2 September (until 23:00)

For the first time in the long history of organized Viennese markets for mainly regional food with own legally regulated market system since the 13th century, since 1839 under the supervision of the Marktamt (market office), a 'Long Night of the Viennese Markets' (Lange Nacht der Wiener Märkte) will happen (history).

13 of the currently 17 permanent markets teamed up with the Marktamt for an entertainment programme which runs on 2 September until 23:00. It's an old tradition over centuries that additionally to the main products (food, culinary), clothing, porcelain or glass products are sold by regional producers and merchants. For the Lange Nacht der Wiener Märkte, the Marktamt organized together with artisans, designers, musicians a programme for a relaxed late-summer night feeling in public places through the city.

At the Karmelitermarkt in the 2nd district of Vienna for example, singer Lisa Cantabile who is known for songs which spread wanderlust and globetrotter lifestyle (track 'Viens avec moi' on Spotify) will perform together with Ulf Lindemann (aka Dunkelbunt; on the piano and electronics) and Haider Khan Gerau (vocals, percussion) from 20:00. Additionally to the permanent market booths with food and gastronomy, the Karmelitermarkt will be expanded by the Arts & Crafts Market (Kunsthandwerksmarkt) consisting of 10 booths with products by artisans and designers like fashion, bags, tablecloths, home textiles,... made from hand-printed textiles by Prater & Stern. The label located in the 2nd district of Vienna is listed at the Ethik.Guide, a shopping guide dedicated to ethical consumption. It offers the search for sustainable and fair produced food, fashion, cosmetics, etc as well as for hotels, restaurants, or cafes.

Other booths at the Karmelitermarkt will be run by ceramic artist and photographer Michaela Falkensteiner (www.michaelafalkensteiner.at), or Miamnuk (www.miamnuk.com) by fashion designer Miriam Laussegger whose practical outdoor clothing was presented last year at the MQ Vienna Fashion Week and will be on view in October 2002 at the traveling design fair Blickfang in Vienna and later in the same month in Hamburg; to name only two additional particpiants of the Kunsthandwerksmarkt.
