Christmas packaging trends as seen at the Herzilein Papeterie in Vienna: The trend is toward reusable alternatives to gift wrap

The Herzilein Papeterie store on Wollzeile in the first district of Vienna is like other shops on this street - the tea and tea accessories shop Schönbichler or the café and pastry shop Heiner - a place that attracts people just by its display design.

Herzlein-Wien is the name of the company founded by former teacher Sonja Völker in 2005, which started with children's fashion. The stationery shop 'Herzilein Papeterie' followed in 2014. In the meantime, Herzlein has expanded its business with additional stores in Vienna. Recently, the papeterie presented the new cosmetic bags designed by Sonja Völker's daughter, Marie Völker, who joined her mother's business in 2022 after finishing her studies in corporate management. The handmade cosmetic bags carry words like 'Queen' or 'Schickimicki', which means a very fancy person or a fancy-shmancy. Sonja Völker mentions in the press release that the makeup bags have been observed being even used as statement clutches.

The bags can be used for whatever the wearer wants; for daily necessities, for jewelry, for pens, or they can be used as gift bags.

Fashion.at wanted to know if there is a trend for reusable bags for Christmas.
According to Sonja Völker, bags - if paper shoppers, paper bags or the bags with zipper are trendy for two reasons: First, people who don't have the gift-wrapping skills or the time to cut paper, glue, and tie ribbons choose the bags. The second reason is the environmentally friendly idea - paper bags can be reused more often. A finished ribbon bow or clip can be used as a closure.
