Exhibition tip with reference to fashion: 'Yoshitomo Nara. All My Little Words' at the Albertina Modern

"Yoshitomo Nara is one of the most incredible artists alive today in my opinion," said Stella McCartney in an interview with 10 Magazine on the occasion of the artist's first fashion collaboration, which was continued in 2022 and presented on the Stella McCartney SS23 runway. Yoshitomo Nara's angry little girl with a big head and written statements like 'Stop The Bombs' or 'Change The History' on clothing pieces like hoodies or on bags could be associated with the current war in Ukraine.

Now, the exhibition 'All My Little Words' at the Albertina Modern Vienna from 10 May to 1 November 2023, presents Yoshitomo Nara's work from the last 40 years with reference to the artist's socio-political statements and support of the No War and Peace activism. Anti-war songs such as 'Universal Soldier' or protest songs like 'Eve of Destruction' can also be found in the Spotify playlist published as part of the introduction to the exhibition at albertina.at/en/albertina-modern/exhibitions/yoshitomo-nara/. Special mention is made of the role of music in the Nara's working process, the artist's experience of loneliness during his early youth and later while studying art in Düsseldorf, Germany, and the anti-hierarchical way of communicating with his audience in an informal and direct way through comic, cartoon-like figures - inside and outside of museums, even on fashion runways.
