The favorite plant of the Austrians during the Advent season in new color variations such as Premium Picasso or Christmas Feelings

The poinsettia is called 'Weihnachtsstern' (Christmas Star) in Austria. The plant - a shrub - is known for its warm, fiery red upper leaves that look like flower petals. As a result, the poinsettia is often mistaken for a flower. The plant, originally from Mexico and Central America, is a favorite in Austrian homes during the Advent season.

The 'Blumenbüro Österreich' (Flower Office Austria), which represents the interests of Austrian florists, gardeners, garden designers and flower wholesalers, recently published insights into current trends in gardening and flower shops. Along with Advent wreaths, poinsettias are still the most popular way to create a festive pre-Christmas atmosphere. Today, florists offer a wide variety of poinsettias, with classic red still a favorite, but newer colors such as cream white, burgundy, apricot and others are gaining popularity. The official names of the varieties are Premium Picasso (appears light pink due to its bicolor pattern of cream with red flecks) or Christmas Feelings (in various shades from pink to cinnamon), to name two from a long list.

In addition, the 'Blumenbüro' gave some tips such as watering (a little water every two days), suitable locations (bright, warm places with daylight protected from drafts) and temperature considerations (between 15° and 22° Celsius).
