MAK Museum of Applied Arts Vienna continues the '(Con)Temporary Fashion Showcase' with the exhibition 'The Years' of fashion-art by Anne-Sophie Berger

Last year, the MAK Museum of Applied Arts Vienna started a series of exhibitions related to fashion and art called '(Con)Temporary Fashion Showcase' at the summer palace Geymüllerschlössel. The series continues in 2023 with the exhibition 'The Years' by Anna-Sophie Berger (born 1989 in Vienna). Berger studied fashion design and transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and has exhibited in museums such as the mumok Vienna and the Bonner Kunstverein. Anna-Sophie Berger will begin the MAK Schindler Fellowship at the MAK Los Angeles branch in autumn. For the exhibition, the artist reflects on the meaning of fashion in contexts such as the economy or body image. The title of the exhibition is borrowed from Virginia Woolf's novel of the same name.

In 'The Years', the visitor is invited to navigate through Anne-Sophie Berger's works such as the 'Fashion is Fast' collection or the seats produced by Balenciaga, remnants of the family business that went bankrupt with fashion jewelry, to examples of the artist's previous exhibitions, such as her mother's Moschino costume with the inscription 'Waist of Money' at waist level, which became a theme on occasion of the 2019 exhibition 'life and limbs' at the Swiss Institute in New York.

The opening weekend of 'The Years' at the Geymllerschlössel is scheduled for 13 and 14 May. Details of this year's '(Con)Temporary Fashion Showcase' can be found at mak.at/fashionshowcase23.
